Help us make a sequel!

Kai UnEarthed is complete and available on Steam.

We have begun working on a sequel called Tempest UnEarthed, set in Los Angeles in 2029 and 2222. Tempest is a non-playable character in Kai UnEarthed, and is the main character in this new game. The game will support young people in practicing how to take collective action as climate change intensifies extreme weather conditions in working class neighborhoods. It will include a digital game, a journal, and possibly a live action theater role-playing game.

Tempest, as seen in Kai UnEarthed

Kai UnEarthed and Tempest UnEarthed are both part of a gaming and climate change curriculum that M. Coopilton is working on with a dynamic team of colleagues, students, co-teachers, and community partners in LA.

  2. Connect

with us on Instagram @kaiunearthed , or email us at KaiUnearthed@gmail.com. We welcome feedback on the game.

  3. Play

the game with people in person or over a live video platform, and compare the journals you create. Feel free to share what you create with us as well at KaiUnearthed@gmail.com.

  4. Create

media inspired by the game: stories, videos, music, other interactive works set in the UnEarthed cinematic universe, or create your own games about unpoliced futures and climate change.

  5. Embed

the game in workshops, classes, or webinars on meditation, journaling, climate justice, critical digital literacy, abolitionism, game design, etc. We are working on curricula around the game too, so let’s compare notes!

  6. Prototype Unpoliced Futures

Kai UnEarthed is one of several abolitionist games that imagine and prototype unpoliced futures. If you are also working on one, or enjoy playing one, let’s connect! We want to support people in creating your own games to imagine the worlds you want to build. And we also hope you’ll come up with new creative ways to incorporate Kai UnEarthed and similar games into community organizing efforts, mutual aid, preparation for action, and recovery from it after.
